So it appears my video card is starting to go or a recent update has caused a lot of issues with it. Nonetheless, I am using this as an excuse to upgrade. What video card do you guys recommend?

I really like Radeon. I'm a year into trying my 1st ever Geforce but it's super choppy in UO. Do not recommend.

I currently have a AMD Radeon 7570. It's Ok, not choppy at all. What series Radeon does your RL friend have?

Depends on what you play. If it's just UO go for something Radeon, cheap and effective. Hell, onboard graphics.
If you play a bit more graphics intense games but aren't one of the noobs that have to have 4K with insane refresh and everything max, a Geforce 1060 is reasonably priced.

with the prices of 970's dropping cus of the 10 series, you can get some good deals on a 970 fuck even get 2nd hand.
its a great card, does everything great on 1080p and max out games Nps.
Of course if you want to splash the cash then go for a 1070 imo.

Depends on if you are running DDR3 or DDR4 ram. If you are running 4, a 1070 or better will keep you up to date for a few more years. If you run DDR3, a 970 is going to make the most out of your current hardware.
While the Radeon is a good choice economically, they don't get near the support from the gaming industry as the Nvidia cards. However, as others have mentioned, if UO is all you play there is little reason to get the "latest and greatest on the market". Personally I use a 270 Radeon, but felt it to be a downgrade over the 450 Nvidia I used before due to way the 270 rendered video vs. the 450.
Running crossfire is ok, but not really all that viable, as you end up using the memory from just one card instead of the two. You also tend to run into support issues now and then with this type of setup over a single card setup, which has a lot to do with the actual amount of testing manufacturers do to make sure their products "play well with others".
In short, the radeon will get you by in a pinch with more bang for the buck, but at the cost of lower quality video playback. The Nvidia will cost you more money, but will offer better performance and a more consistent support base for games.
Edit: When buying any cards, I always wait for new model years to be released...the old cards normally take a 30-50% drop in price. AMD and Nvidia are both fairly consistent on the time of year they release their new cards...and right now you can find last years models for both at a good price.
Oh, and always check with the stores for old stock models...whether mice, monitors, or video cards, you can often find a great deal on goodies. For instance, I found a new old stock naga this summer for 30$ with just a few minutes of searching online...

just got an nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, mainly to use that HTC Vive VR setup. Works great.
For UO, it really doesn't matter, could probably display 50 clients smoothly with it
